This design proposal was for one common office and two slightly different homes for two brothers and their families on one plot of land in Central Chennai. The linear site offered a chance to locate the office at the ground level with the twin duplex homes made to appear floating above the office space. The cantilevered portions of the homes were supported by a v-shaped double column that also facilitated demarcating pedestrian and parking spaces at the ground level. The central bamboo garden between the homes separates them visually while the plunge pool at the second level links them inextricably, thereby representing the duality of visual distinction, voiced by the two brothers for each of their homes. The composition of the homes was based on the location of two cubic volumes around a central garden. A parametric model was then created to allocate the individual spaces to optimal positions based on daylight and privacy which also provided diverse visual character to the duplex homes from every point of view.
